Home of Fresh, Dried and Salted Fish

Perca nilotica

Where all things finned and aquatic are sold!

Dried kite fillets, perfect for the family!

We have the freshest young Nile tilapia filets, brought to the docks
this morning by fisherboys who cast their lines by the waters' edge.

Nile trout, a heretofore undiscovered species.

Squid, a Mediterranean delicacy brought in by the Greeks and Romans.
Squid has both the white body tubes, and the pinkish tentacles.

A gift from our friends to the north in Celtia.
They pack it in something they call "snow" to keep it fresh on the journey here.

In the Old Kingdom, fish was mainly eaten by the peasants.
The nobility could afford cattle, and disdained fish..

In the Middle Kingdom, both nobility and peasants ate fish.

It appears that some priests, especially those associated with Osiris or Heru,
would not eat fish, as at least three species of fish
were blamed for having eaten Osiris' "member".

Also, some rites required periods of purification, during which time the
celebratory priests would not eat fish (and sometimes would also abstain from meat).

We also have a special on waterfowl, caught feeding on our fish!
We've cooked and glazed the bird for you, to insure long-lasting freshness,
and for an extra fee we will provide you with an exceptionally-fine
silver serving platter.

If you are just slightly hungry, try one of our quail.
We've invented a four-tined eating implement if you desire to buy one to try.

EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA

We now provide mummification for your fish!
Competitive services, fully guaranteed to last 2000 years,
barring acts of Netjer.

Check back often; our stocks of fish are constantly changing.

~ TESTIMONIALS ~

Wasabi sez: I serve the fresh fish raw all the time at the Bar O in Alexandria. This Market is the real McCoy-otep!
Miw sez: I eat fish all the time whenever I can find it. They leave offerings for me over at Per Bastet, cooked or raw. Salted is okay if you give me lots of milk!

Dried fish is halfway to the mummification stage, and welcome to continue on, in her opinion.
