Closing Ceremonies, July 2000

By the end of the day, it was preparing to rain. Indeed, a bit of on and off preceeded the Closing Ceremonies. However, the rains were not heavy, just somewhat inconvenient. Nothing, however, dampened the spirits of the several pipe bands that marched in to regale us.

A mass of Scottish bagpipers

The pipers and drummers marched down to the end of the field, turned around, and marched back. It looks like confusion in the shot below, but indeed this was all well-orchestrated.

Another shot, with the Marshall leading the field:

more Scottish pipers, or the same ones, again

Below, the 79th New York Cameron Highlanders provides a closing 5-gun salute. If you look closely, it is raining. If you can't tell, take the word from those umbrella-bearers in the background. One assumes that bagpipes bear up well under the duress of the elements.
